Alice Cerf, born on 23/09 1872, arrested on 07/27/1944 and deported to Auschwitz by the last and XXVIth convoy.

In Arlon, 8 new Pavers of Memory will be laid this Monday, April 29 by the Association for the Memory of the Shoah (AMS). On this date, Belgium will have 413 Pavers of Memory, placed on the sidewalks in front of the doors of the houses where victims of Nazism lived, mainly Jews targeted by the genocidal policy of the Third Reich.
It is on the initiative of Jean-Claude Jacob, president of the Israelite community of Arlon and minister officiating of the Jewish worship, readlayed by the echevine Anne-Catherine Goffinet (cdH), that the municipal council of Arlon in sponsored these 8 cobblestones.
The Arlon Jewish community has the oldest Jewish cemetery in the country as well as the first synagogue built in Belgium (1865). There were more than 200 Jews practicing in Arlon before the war, mainly from Alsace and Lorraine, as well as a large number of German Jews who were political refugees. After the war there were only 100 and since that number has continued to decrease, so that worship has not been practiced there since 2014 and that the synagogue, in poor condition, awaits the meeting of the subsidies necessary for its conservation.
The installation of the Memory Pavers will be carried out by the technical services of the municipal administration.
Students from the Center, Schoppach, Institut Notre-Dame, Athnénée and École de Neufchateau schools will take an active part in the ceremonies, after being prepared for educational work.
The poses and official inaugurations of the Pavés de Mémoire will begin at 10 a.m. with the welcoming speech of the mayor VincentMagnus (cdH), devoted to the responsibility of the municipal administration in the persecution and deportation of the Jews of Belgium during the Second World War . Philippe Pierret, historian specializing in the history of the Jews of Belgium will discuss the importance of the Jewish community in Arlon before the 2nd World War. Mrs. Peuckert will present the history of the Jewish community during and after the war. It will be followed by contributions from Messrs Jean-Claude Jacob, Gerd Klestadt former deportee and Marcel Zalc, President of AMS. The latter will develop the role of Pavers of Memory in the necessary fight against the return of anti-Semitism in Europe.
The cobblestones will be laid at the following addresses: 26 Place Hollenfeltz in the name of Ludwig HOFFMAN; 28 Butter Market in the name of Gisela SCHABES; 6 avenue Nothomb in the name of Alice CERF; 27 rue Léon Castilhon with the names of Camille CAHEN and Irma CAHEN; 103 Rue des Faubourgs with the names of Michel RUTH and 26 Rue de Neufchâteau with the names of Lucien BEHR and Julie BEHR. Each pose will evoke the destinies of the victims to whom tribute will be paid, with testimonies, songs and sometimes prayers.
