Westdijk 55, Sommelsdijk Goeree-Overflakkee
Salomon Gazan and Sebilla Levi also had a son Hartog and a son Philip. We have been unable to determine whether one or more people in this family survived the war. Their name has not been found on lists of survivors, but we have not been able to find them with certainty in In Memoriam. They are referred to as 'surviving' in the monument and their name is not mentioned. Salomon Gazan, b. 20.08.1851 in Sommelsdijk, married 27.08.1885 to Sebilla Levi, b. 25.06.1861 in Willemstad. From this marriage were born: Cato, 13.06.1889, Hartog, 15.06.1890, Izaäk Salomon, 16.02.1892, Margaretha, 22.05.1893, Philip, 22.04.1894 and Roosje, 29.04.1902. Four other children from this marriage died before deportations to Westerbork started. Salomon Gazan was a meat hack and cattle dealer on the Westdijk A304 (now no. 55) in Sommelsdijk. Isaac Salomon worked in the butcher shop. Philip became a butcher in Dirksland, Roosje lived at home. Daughter Cato was a nurse in the Apeldoornse Bos, an institution for Jewish feeble-minded people. Hartog became a shopkeeper. In the photo with the children the butcher shop with Roosje (in the light dress). To the right of her sweater Noordijk. Boy next door Joop van Splunter in the pram.
