Eduard Carel Frederik Hellendoorn was born on November 29, 1912 in Amsterdam. His father was an architect. After high school, he followed the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. This is a floor story of the story 'Puttense artists' from the Canon van Putten. In 1931 Hellendoorn married fellow student Johanna Maria Drayton Lee. Together they had three children, a daughter and two sons. His son Edwan still lives in Putten in 2018. The young couple started in Ostend, but moved when their daughter Durske was born to The Hague. They did this at the request of the mother of Johanna, who also supported them financially. The Hellendoorn family also lived briefly in Monster and in the Haarlemmermeer. In 1935 they went to live on the Drieseweg, near the Putterbos, in Putten. Realistic style and career Hellendoorn developed into a delicate artist with their own realistic style. Inspired by the beautiful nature in Putten, he made beautiful drawings, woodcuts and oil paintings, including some Puttense farmers, but also beautiful portraits of his wife and self -portraits. From the children, when they were small, he made beautiful drawings. The sale of his paintwork yielded too little to be able to exist with his family, so Ward Hellendoorn opted for a permanent job at Elsevier in Amsterdam after his divorce In 1939. At Elsevier he became a draftsman, band designer and illustrator. Communist artists 'resistance after the outbreak of the Second World War on 10 May 1940, he soon joined the Communist Artists' Movement. He was involved in the distribution of illegal magazines and raised money for people in hiding. In 1941 he actively participated in the February strike, the protest against the deportation of Jewish countrymen. The strike was broken with violence and many arrests were made. Hellendoorn was also one of the victims. Dood judgment a member of the Elsevier management betrayed Hellendoorn at the Nazis and he was locked up for some time in the Oranjehotel in Scheveningen. The death sentence was pronounced against him, together with two other communist February strikers. On the Waalsdorpervlakte they were shot on 13 March 1941, together with 15 members of the resistance group of the Geuzen of Bernard IJzerdraat. On March 4, 1941, 18 members of this resistance group were sentenced to death. Three of them turned out to be a minor and therefore escaped death. For the Nazis, eighteen is a given and for that reason the three February strikers with 15 men from the De Geuzen resistance group were executed.
