Jacob Catslaan 14 Eindhoven
Samuel de Jongh was born on February 2, 1879 in Eindhoven. His parents are Benjam de Jongh and Eva Keijzer. The De Jongh family has been living in Eindhoven since before 1800. Samuel de Jongh is a merchant in rags and old iron.
Regina Biedermann was born in Amsterdam on July 1, 1881. She is the third child of Marcus Biedermann and Justina Karn1, who have a total of ten children. On September 16, 1903 she married Samuel de Jongh in Eindhoven. They had three daughters and a son: Eva in 1904, Justina in 1905, Carolina in 1907 and Benjamin in 1918.
In 1930, then fifty-year-old Samuel de Jongh had a villa built for his family in Jacob Catslaan. The house is named Regina, after his wife.
In 1942 Regina de Jongh placed an advertisement for 'a neat domestic help'. She refers to herself and her husband as a 'liberal Israeli couple'. Moments later, the couple has to go into hiding. First at St. Joris College, where the school's caretaker, Jef Schoonhen, helps them hide in the attic for a short time. Later the couple was able to go into hiding in Waalre, but there they were betrayed and taken to Westerbork on 10 July 1943.
The deportation to Sobibor follows on 13 July 1943. Samuel de Jongh and Regina de Jongh-Biedermann were murdered there immediately after their arrival, on 16 July 1943.
Their eldest daughter Eva also did not survive the war.
Their eldest daughter Eva also died in Sobibor in Poland. In 1942 they still live in the Jacob Catslaan, but on her death certificate it says “living in Waalre” So probably the couple De Jongh-Biedermann went into hiding in Waalre and was removed from there. (Data from Harrie van de Laak, Waalres Heritage)
Mrs. de Regina Jongh-Biederman still lived here in 1942 and was able to help their 'liberal israel. couple' freely advertise for a decent domestic worker; a little later the couple had to go into hiding, first in the attic of the opposite Joris College, later in Waalre, where the couple was betrayed. The couple was gassed in Sobibor
