Westersingel 82 Culemborg
Maurits Gans lived with his second wife and three children at 82 Westersingel. Maurits was a tax collector in Culemborg. He and his wife went into hiding on the Triosingel and both, like their daughter Hanny, survived the war. Both his children from his first marriage, Salomon and Henri, died in Auschwitz in 1944. Henri Gans was a talented draftsman, whose first publications appeared just before the war, when he was 17 years old. Salomon Gans was a son of Maurits Gans and Henriette Spier. He lived with his brother Henri in Culemborg. The Police Commissioner in Culemborg requested that the brothers Salomon Gans and Henri Gans be located, detained and brought to trial, both without an occupation and both living at 82 Westersingel in Culemborg. They were suspected of having changed their place of residence without obtaining the required authorization. This description denoted Jews who had gone into hiding. Description by Salomon Gans: 'Long approx. 1.75 m, stature, dark brown hair, short cut mustache, round face, hook nose, blushing appearance, wearing parting on the left; wears glasses with dark brown frames; clothes unknown, since he brought all his clothes and it is not known which costume he is wearing; bareheaded.
