Salomon Zaligman junior was a son of Salomon Zaligman senior and Hindrejette Wijnberg. He was a half brother of Philippus Zaligman Salomon Zaligman married on October 29, 1924 in Coevorden to Evelina Froukje Wilda. The couple went to live in Dwingeloo, where they started a clothing store. In 1933 they left for Meppel, where Salomon ran the De Horizon hosiery shop with his half brother Philip. Salomon Zaligman and his wife had three daughters: Hindrejette, Hendrika Salientje and Miena. Salomon owned a car, with which he passed merchandise to customers in the vicinity of Meppel. The three daughters, all attending school, had to go to a school for Jewish students from the beginning of the 1941-1942 school year. Hindrejette and Hendrika, students at the Rijks-HBS in Meppel, had to go to the Jewish secondary school in Zwolle. Miena was still in the third grade of primary school; it was not until February 1942 that a primary school for Jewish pupils was opened in Meppel and she was also able to return to school. Salomon Zaligman was arrested by the police of Meppel on Saturday, June 20, 1942 by order of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) on charges that he had sold confiscated goods. This concerned goods from his own shop that had been seized by the Germans. He was imprisoned in the police station of Meppel and transferred to the office of the Sicherheitspolizei in Assen on Monday morning, June 22, 1942. He was transported from Assen to Westerbork on 3 July, from where he was deported to Auschwitz on 16 July. Solomon's wife Evelina Froukje and their children Hindrejette, Hendrika Salientje and Miena were taken from their home in the night of 2 to 3 October 1942 and deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork.
