Hieronymus Seppi was born in Ruffrè, South Tyrol, on 13 September 1892. In 1921 he married Elisabeth Albert from Ludwigshafen and was elected municipal treasurer of Mutterstadt. He also managed several local and regional funds and worked closely with mayor Jakob Weber. A Social Democrat from 1918 until the SPD was dissolved by the Nazis in 1933, Seppi was removed from office after the Nazi “Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service”. He was accused of mismanagement and financial irregularities, denied salary and pension rights, and was meant to be sent to a concentration camp, but fled to Marienkrankenhaus in Ludwigshafen. In 1933 he was convicted of fraud, but acquitted on appeal in 1934. Only in 1940 was he employed again as tax and municipal treasurer in Sippersfeld, where he worked until 1955. He later returned to Mutterstadt and died there in 1969.
