Siriusstraat 59 Hilversum
Georg Borchardt arrives in camp Westerbork on June 20, 1943 from the address Jekerstraat 71 II in Amsterdam, where he was housed in barrack 55. He is officially registered with the municipality of Westerbork as a resident, with the current municipality of Midden-Drenthe there is still a person card . Georg Borchardt had a Sperr, a temporary exemption from deportation, because of his position. Unfortunately, it was not indicated on his registration card of the Jewish Council. On June 27, 1943, a request was sent from the camp to the Jewish Council in Amsterdam to check whether Georg could possibly be placed on the Barneveld list. Two days later, a message returns that as a foreigner he does not have much chance for Barneveld. On July 4, 1943, the message that placement on the Palestine list is also not possible - then it is examined whether he might get a Sperr on the basis of his merit for German literature. Incidentally, they continue to try to obtain a Palestine certificate, correspondence address is Mrs. Professor Emilie Borchart in Zurich. All attempts to defer deportation fail: Georg Borchardt is transported to Auschwitz on November 16, 1943, where he is murdered upon arrival. His daughter Ursula Henriëtte Kalmann-Borchardt arrives at camp Westerbork on 20 June 1943 together with her son Hendrik Peter Michael (born 13-3-1941 in Hilversum) and her father. She was divorced, worked for the bread supply and therefore had a Sperr. Mother and son are housed in barrack 57. Both are deported to Bergen-Belsen on February 1, 1944 and exchanged for Palestine on July 10, 1944. That is how both survived the war. Source: Camp Westerbork Memorial Center
