Diesterstraat 47 Sint-Truiden
Jonkman, butcher in the Diesterschestraat, 47. Always in a cheerful mood, generous in his dealings, Georges was loved by all those who knew him. And certainly he has been a support to many in those difficult days at Breendonk, and elsewhere. It is with a true sense of appreciation and deep affection that they tell former companions of his true brotherly love when, even uninvited, he still communicated his scanty times to those who suffered more than himself. After Breendonk he came to Esterwegen, Gross-Strehlitz, Laband and the murderer hole Buchenwald; but then the capitulation came: May 8, 1945 - everyone was free and George hoped, hoped. Now everything was over, now back to the Fatherland, to his dear parents, brothers and sisters and beloved fiancé. However, he was too weak, the hardships and torture had been too heavy. Tearing eyes to the West, he saw his loved ones again and then went smiling and resigned into eternity: sad end, exalted death in the far foreign land at Theresienstadt, on June 7, 1945.
Georges was born in Duras, April 6, 1914 and former combatant 1940.
