Haartsestraat 64 Aalten
Wijnand Andriesse was born in Cuyk as the son of Jacques Andriesse, born September 20, 1874, and Femia Alsace, born May 31, 1882 in Borculo. The Andriesse family has suffered a lot. The first child born to Jacques and Femia, André Wijnand, lived only 16 days. The next two boys were successively given the names of their deceased brother. André was born in Cuyk on April 10, 1915 and Wijnand on September 29, 1916. After that, another sister was born, Elizabeth (Lies), on April 21, 1918. Four years after the birth of the youngest child, the father died on April 5, 1922, aged 47. The family fell apart shortly after, because the mother was unable to take care of the children. Wijnand grew up in foster homes. In 1936 André became Andriesse Chazan of the Jewish community in Aalten. His mother Femia and his brother Wijnand also came to Aalten on that occasion. André left for Enschede two years later, where he also became a pastor, and his mother followed him two years later. Wijnand was the only one who stayed in Aalten. He worked in a factory, but was sent to a labor camp in September 1941 and from there to Westschork to Auschwitz. There he was murdered on February 28, 1943, two days after his mother, who had been brought there from a nursing home in Amsterdam. Wijnand was 26 years old, his mother was 62. Shortly before that, Lies (24), a nurse in the Apeldoornse Bos, was also killed in Auschwitz. André (26) died on October 18, 1941 in Mauthausen.
