Philip was the second child of Salomon Mok and Saartje Ester Mok. Their first child, Gezina was born in 1916. She survived WWII and died after the war in Kibbutch Ramat Hakovetch in Israel.
Philip made many wanderings in his young life. As a 17-year-old, he moved from Voorst to Zutphen and then to Velsen on June 8, 1938, according to his Amsterdam archive card. His file card states that he was a farmhand by profession. We do not know whether he also did farm work in all those places where he lived.
On July 25 he was registered again in Haarlem, possibly with his parents. From there he left two months later for Spaarnwouderdijk 396hs in Amsterdam. Two months later he moved again to Haarlem. There he was registered in the population register on January 2, 1941. On February 12, 1941, more than a month later, he came to live in Schoorl on the farm of livestock farmer C. Akkerman at Poelenburglaan 43. He lived and worked here until April 1942. He spent a lot of time with the famous Jewish ice cream man David de Groot in Bergen. This family had to leave Bergen on German orders to go to Amsterdam. This family has been registered in the population register of Amsterdam since December 18, 1942 at Rijnstraat 58. Of this family with four children, only the eldest daughter Kaatje survived the war.
One day, sometime in the second half of 1942, the Schoorl constable came to pick up Philip from the farm. He also had to move to Amsterdam. Daughter Geertje Akkerman remembered well that Philip had to cry when he was picked up and had to leave. The Akkerman family never heard from him again after that. On December 4, 1942, Philip Mok was added to the population register of Amsterdam. His home address at the time was Camperstraat 48 III.
Shortly afterwards, on February 10, 1943, he had to go to camp Vught. He stayed there for about six months, until July 2, 1943, when he was deported to Westerbork. He only stayed there for a few days, because his name is on the transport list of the July 6 train to Sobibor. When he arrived there on July 9, 1943, he was immediately murdered.
