Ennekerdijk 25 Borne
Levie Lievendag, called Louis in everyday life, married Betje Lievendag in 1896. Their grandfathers were brothers. It was a very nice family, a local resident remembers. After their marriage they live at different addresses, but when the war starts, they have settled at Ennekerdijk (now number 25). They have seven children: Henri (1897), Roosje (1899), Izak (1901), Henriëtte (1902), Abraham (1904), Metha (1908) and Eliza (1910). Louis and Betje's sons work as salesmen, the daughters as office clerk or seamstress. The eldest son, Henri, goes to live in Deventer, where he dies in 1932. He leaves behind his wife Rachel Behr and son Louis. They live in Borne for a year after his death, but then return to Deventer and are killed in the war. Izak, the second son of Betje and Levie, left for Den Bosch shortly before the war and died in the war with his wife Sophia Zeehandelaar and their young son Max Henri. Daughter Henriëtte Marianne marries Jacob Bollegraaf from Winschoten and goes to live there. An uncle of Henriëtte, her mother's half-brother Salomon, already lives in Winschoten. Henriette and her husband died in the war. The youngest daughter Eliza of Lies is married to Donald de Leeuw, who is also from Borne. Initially they live with her parents, later on the Oude Deldensestraat. During the war they go into hiding and survive the war. They lived with the Bos family on Bornebroeksestraat for much of the war. Their son Jo is born in 1940. He is taken to Zwolle; his story can be read in the third chapter. Betje and Louis still live with their children Metha, Roosje and Abraham / Bram on the Ennekerdijk when the war breaks out. Bram became engaged to Mieke Simons in 1940. Father Louis dies in 1940 and is buried in Borne. On the tombstone after the war the text is written: "We also remember our dear family who fell as victims of German terror". Metha has worked at Spanjaard since 1926 and has various functions there. During the war she goes into hiding with her sister Roosje in Hengelo, but they are betrayed. They are gassed in Sobibor, a week after their mother Betje, who is deported via Vught to Westerbork and Sobibor.
