Maaierstraat 28 Enschede
Bram was born on May 20, 1913 in Dinteloord. At the time of the mobilization, he serves as a corporal with the Police Force Corps and is deployed in national defense. After the Dutch capitulation on May 15, 1940, Bram is demobilized again and tries to resume his work with the regular police. With his newly married wife Neeltje Bolluijt he moves to Enschede, where he is appointed as an agent in the police force as of August 12, 1940. From his new position, Bram would also have been active in the resistance, but nothing is known about it. On April 29, 1943, the German authorities ordered that all Dutch former military personnel would still be taken as prisoners of war, because "inciters" had incited members of the former Dutch army to behave in a hostile manner. In response to this, the April national strikes break out, but these are ended quickly and brutally by the Germans due to their lack of central coordination. On July 6, 24 former soldiers are also taken prisoner at the Enschede police force and taken to Germany. One of them is Bram who is transported to Stammlager IV-b in Mühlberg an der Elbe. At some point, he is transferred to Melzwig and then to Eisleben, Stalag IV-d Torgau outdoor camps. In Eisleben, the prisoners are put to work for the woodworking company Nauhelfta. During a visit to the camp in October 1944, a delegate from the Swedish embassy noted that the workers were Dutch prisoners of war who had previously protested work for the German war industry at Arado Flugzeugwerke GmbH in Wittenberg. However, it is not known whether Bram previously worked at Arado. Bram died on September 25, 1944 in Eisleben from the consequences of diphtheria. He was 31 years old and finds his final resting place at home in Dinteloord.
