Noorderhagen 1a Enschede
Because Sieg and Roelie bake bread, they can continue to work. They receive a Sperre, an exemption from forced deportation to a concentration camp. Yet, a year later, the family decides to go into hiding. The three of them end up on Bleekerstraat, in the worker's cottage of Harm Langenberg, a baker's assistant. If the residential-shop building is found empty, it will appear in the municipality's registration as follows: They are vow: left unknown where. So they went into hiding, but on Bleekerstraat they were betrayed and arrested. Sieg, Rosa and Roelie are deported to Westerbork. And within three weeks, in August 1943, the family is deported to Auschwitz. Rosa is immediately taken to the gas chambers, she is then 43 years old. Sieg and Roelie are taken out of line, apparently still good enough to work. But they don't survive either. Sieg dies in February 1944, aged 46. Roelie can still turn 18. He does not survive the death march from Auschwitz, ahead of the Russian troops. On February 25, 1945, he also succumbs. On his Stolpersteine at the Noorderhang you can read where, in Buchenwald.
