On Friday evening 2 October 1942, during a raid on behalf of the Germans, Leentje Pagrach-Meijers and her children Isidoor and Jacob were taken from home by the Hengelo police and taken to the police station on the Marskant. According to the report of the police officer on duty, they are the next day, Saturday, October 3, 1942 On Tuesday, October 13, they were deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz concentration camp. Immediately after their arrival on Thursday, October 15, 1942, they were killed in the gas chamber. Leentje Pagrach-Meijers is then 34 years old. Isidoor, the oldest child is five and Jacob, the youngest, is three. The name of the father, Benjamin Pagrach, is not mentioned in the police report of the Hengelo police of 2 October 1942. It is suspected that Benjamin Pagrach was put to work in the Kesteren labor camp before that time. On October 3, 1942, all work camps in Overijssel were closed and the workers were transferred to camp Westerbork, where their family members also arrived the same day. However, the families did not live together and in many cases the man and woman with children were deported separately. This was also the case with the Pagrach family. Benjamin Pagrach was deported from Camp Westerbork to concentration camp Auschwitz on Tuesday 17 November 1942 and was killed in the gas chamber on Friday 20 November 1942 on the day of arrival. He is then 40 years old. Benjamin Pagrach was born in Rijssen on July 4, 1902, as the eldest son of Jacob Pagrach and Lena Berg. He has a sister and a brother. His father is a trader in slaughterhouse waste, a cattle dealer and a butcher. The slaughter took place at home on the part in Holten. He was known as “n armn Jacob”. Both parents were gassed on 14 May 1943 in the Sobibor extermination camp in Poland. The municipality of Holten unsubscribed them stating: “abroad”. Benjamin is a cattle dealer by trade and lives with his parents in Holten before his departure to Hengelo. There he is nicknamed “De Beier”. When asked if he had still acted, the invariable answer was: "Yes, I still have half a pound of monkeys ekoch". Benjamin Pagrach leaves in 1936 at the age of 34 to 25 Paul Krugerstraat in Hengelo. His brother-in-law, Abraham Franken, married to his sister Helena Pagrach, has a butcher shop at Oldenzaalsestraat 195 Benjamin's wife, Leentje Meijers, is originally from Enschede. She was born in Enschede on 19 July 1908 as the eldest child of Isidoor Meyers and Sophia Meyers-Spanjar. Her father was a butcher. She comes from a family of ten children, of which almost all her brothers and sisters were killed in Sobibor between February and July 1943. Her father was also deported to Sobibor and murdered there on May 7, 1943. Her mother came from Rijssen and died in Enschede in 1939 before the war. Until now nothing is known about the life of the Pagrach family on Paul Krügerstraat.
