Van Beekstraat 8 Landsmeer
Simon Goede, born Landsmeer on September 3, 1899, lived in Landsmeer, van Beekstraat 8, with his parents, was unmarried. His father (Jan Goede Szn, shot dead by the SS on Dam Square in Amsterdam on May 7, 1945) had a wholesale business in eggs, which also imported and exported, supplied to shipping companies, factories, hotels and confectioneries. Simon was known in the Achterhoek as "Uncle Tom". He was very active there in helping people in hiding (including Jews). Together with Henk Raven he went into hiding with the Klein Wassink Family (Gert and Aaltje and son Dirk? born -1938) in Halle/Zelhem. Mr. Raven told us (my sister and my brother and me) the following on February 23, 1997 in Culemborg: They had already been warned that treason had been committed and that Uncle Tom would be arrested, and so had to leave. However, he postponed that until the next day. On the night of April 30 to May 1, 1944, the farm was surrounded. The Germans knew that Uncle Tom had to be there, but could not find him, but they could find the slept-in bed. He was in a good hiding place with Henk Raven. They could hear that the Germans were threatening to burn the farm. Uncle Tom urged Henk Raven to keep quiet. Uncle Tom emerged, reported to the Germans and was arrested at 3:30 am. It is suspected that a certain Kolenbrander betrayed him. Because he committed suicide after his arrest after the war, there was no trial.
