Voorstraat 28 Numansdorp
Jacob Zwarenstein and Antje Zwarenstein were children of Sander Zwarenstein and Truitje Elzas. Three sisters and a brother of Jacob and Antje Zwarenstein died before the war. Jacob Zwarenstein was born in Numansdorp on March 6, 1877 and he lived there with his older sister Antje (Numansdorp, April 2, 1872). Stumbling Stones have been placed in front of them at Voorstraat 28, the location of their business. At the age of 65, Jacob and his 70-year-old sister were put on the tram with Nardes Morisco and Nardes Morisco, who drove from Numansdorp to Rosestraat in Rotterdam. Jacob, Antje and Nardes walked from the station Rosestraat to Loods 24, the Rotterdam 'Hollandse Schouwburg', the gathering place of the Jews from Rotterdam and the South Holland islands. Their departure from Numansdorp was a journey to death, because of their age they had no chance at a selection in Auschwitz. Three days and nights after their transport left Westerbork on November 10, 1942, they were murdered in a gas chamber in Auschwitz. An eyewitness Kor van Prooyen, in 2016 (then 87 years old) could still tell how the departure of these three Numansdorp Jews went: "I will never forget that image, says the eyewitness." "I was 13. The tram stop was right in front of my parents' house, where I still live. A few hundred people from the village stood around the tram. Everyone knew that the Zwarensteinen were being taken away. But when the tram started to ride, it burst many in tears. Even my great-uncle cried like a little child. I'm already emotional about myself, but that moment had a huge impact on me. "
