Goudmijnstraat 51

Chajjiem Colthof lived with his parents Israël Colthof and Marianne Frank at 51 Goudmijnstraat in Oss. He died in concentration camp Vught on April 27, 1943.

Israel Colthof was born on August 13, 1906 in Roermond. He was married to Marianne Frank. He was an office clerk by trade and was also leader of the youth synagogue. Marianne Frank was born on February 24, 1909 in Hilversum, at Spoorstraat number 32. Marianne came from a family of five. Father Herman Frank moved with his wife and mother of Marianne, Rebekka Philips, to Hilversum around 1890. That was because living and working could be combined there. Marianne was the couple's eldest daughter. She had a smaller brother and a smaller sister, Philip and Alida. Philip was one year younger than Marianne, and Alida, the youngest, was 3 years younger.

Around 1926 Marianne was a student at the HBS, this was a school in Hilversum. This school still exists today, nowadays the name is “A. Roland Holst College ”. Marianne Frank and Israël Colthof were married on December 24, 1936 in Oss. They lived there at 51 Goudmijnstraat. Almost three years after the wedding, the couple had a child, Aäron Sjoloum, a boy who died after only 8 days. Marianne and Israel have two more children, a girl and a boy: Judith, November 3, 1940, and Chajjiem, born March 1, 1942.

As the war continues, more and more anti-Jewish measures are taking place that make the life of the Colthof family increasingly difficult. Because of the function of Israel, the family can withdraw from transport to a camp for a while, but on 8 or 9 April 1943 the Colthof family also ends up in Camp Vught. The family is separated from each other in the camp. Israel ends up in a barracks other than Marianne and the children. There is little fresh air and Chajjiem develops pneumonia.

Because of the poor conditions and lack of medicine, Chayim died on April 27, 1943. On the day Chayim dies, Israel is not in the camp. It is not known when he was informed of the death of his son. On June 8, 1943 Israel from Vught arrives in camp Westerbork. That same day he is transported back to Sobibór. Marianne and Judith also later go from Vught to camp Westerbork, where they arrive in barrack 62. On July 20, 1943 they are deported to Sobibór where both die on July 23, 1943. Israel Colthof has been dead for more than a month. He was murdered in Sobibór on June 11, 1943.
