Blasiusstraat 6 Amsterdam
Penina Onderwijzer was a daughter of Rabbi Abraham Onderwijzer (1862-1934) and Lea Wagenaar (1870-1932). She had three brothers: Mozes (representative), Elias (official) and Izak (director). Her first marriage was to Meijer de Haan. Meijer was a brother of Jacob Israël de Haan (1881-1924), journalist, writer, poet, publicist, legal scholar and (anti-)Zionist, and of Carolina Lea de Haan (1881-1932), known as the writer Carry van Bruggen. Penina and Meijer had two children: Betty (1921) and Abraham (1923). After Meijer's death, she married Nathan Cohen (1903). They lived upstairs at Blasiusstraat 6. Nathan was head teacher at the Palacheschool, Lepelkruisstraat 4, Amsterdam. Together they had two children: Benjamin (1932) and Eva (1933). Penina was an active board member of the Mizrahist Women's Association. She managed to recruit many members for this association. This orthodox Zionist association worked for the foundation of a Jewish state. Nathan, Penina, Benjamin and Eva were murdered in Sobibor on July 23, 1943.
