Hartog van Beugen and Roosje Monasch married on April 20, 1898 in Rotterdam. Seven children were born from this marriage: Betje, Dina, Louis, Leonard, Alida, Henriëtte Francina, Elias. Alida went into hiding with her husband and 2 sons and they survived the war. All children, except Elias, lived at a different address.

Hartog van Beugen has been the religious teacher, cantor and help of the rabbi in Dordrecht for many decades.

Hartog van Beugen has been the right hand of the Dordrecht rabbi Samuel Dasberg since 1920 and since May 1, 1932 of his successor Barend Josua Katan. He was a teacher, chazan, sjouchet, moheel, secretary and administrator of the Jewish community of Dordrecht.
