1e Franklinstraat 2 Eindhoven
David van der Woude was born on July 12, 1918 in Amsterdam. His parents named him after his grandfather, David Lopes Quiros, who is a shoemaker by trade. David has an older sister: Gretel. In 1930, the marriage between David's parents was dissolved. In March 1940 David leaves for Eindhoven to become an apprentice shoemaker at Ebbo Bos. The shoemaker is located at 1e Franklinstraat 2. David worked here for over a year and also lives in a room there. David's parents are already dead when the war breaks out. His mother, Esther, dies on April 19, 1940. So David was just living in Eindhoven. On May 21, 1941 David moves to Hillegom and more than three months later, on September 4, 1941, he settles back in Amsterdam. David van der Woude is deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz on 21 September 1943. The train counts 27 wagons that day. Good for 979 people. On arrival in Auschwitz on September 24, 1943, an unusually large number of 591 people were admitted to the camp. The other 388 are killed directly in the gas chambers. David, despite his young age, is one of those 388. David's sister also did not survive the war.
