Gustav Hirsch, a former front fighter, was a son of Suszman Hirsch and Sara Kaufman. He was born in Frankenwinheim in Bavaria, and lived in Schweinfurt. He was married on 12 August 1942 in Gouda to Claris Weil from Offenburg (Baden) and lived in Offenberg in Bavaria, a daughter of Mozes Weil and Rebekka Weil.

Gustav Hirsch and his wife Claris came to the Netherlands on March 11, 1938 and lived in Gouda in Hoogstraat 1. On September 26, 1942, Gustav and Claris were deported from Gouda to Westerbork and two days later, on September 28, 1942, he was with his wife. deported to Auschwitz, where both were murdered on October 1, 1942.

Gustav Hirsch had two more brothers: his brother Salomon and his French wife survived the Holocaust in Gouda. He died there in 1954, after which his widow returned to France. His brother Hans Werner as well as his wife Gerda Liselotte Reiss were also murdered in the Sjoa. Hans Werner was killed on January 31, 1943 in Auschwitz and his wife Gerda Liselotte already there on October 1, 1942.
