Rechthuisstraat 40 Haarlem
Susanna Spetter-Dessaur, born on December 30, 1893 in Amsterdam, was one of the ten children of Jacob Dessaur and Duifje Lampie. She married Maurits Spetter on October 29, 1919, and together they had two children: Sophia and Jacob. The family lived at various addresses in The Hague and Amsterdam before moving to Kastanjestraat 38 in Velsen in 1930, and in 1938 to Rechthuisstraat 40 in Haarlem-Noord. On August 24, 1942, Susanna, Maurits, and Jacob received the call to report for work in the east. They were transported to Westerbork and then on August 28 to Auschwitz, where Susanna was murdered on August 31, 1942. Her whole family was murdered in the Holocaust, except for one cousin who emigrated after the war. Jacob Spetter, born on August 30, 1923 in Amsterdam, was probably taken out of the train in Cosel and forced to work in Silesia. His sister Sophia, who lived in Assen, married on September 7, 1942, but both side and her husband were picked up a few weeks later and deported to Auschwitz, where they both died. Jacob died on April 30, 1943 in Central Europe. This tragedy became part of the Baruch collection, an initiative that stumbling stone places in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
