Tempeliersstraat 19 Haarlem
Zadok de Raaij was born on the Bakenessergracht in Haarlem as the sixth of seven children of Duifje Veerman and Emanuel Abraham de Raaij, who had a trade in rags and old metals. He married Berendina Cohen from Oldenzaal in 1919 and had two children, Emanuel Jacques (Bob) and Frida Helena. In 1925 the family moved to Tempeliersstraat. Zadok's company, et al. De Raaij & Zoon, was a successful family business. During the war, the family dived at the bottom of the dark Spaarne, but was betrayed by the people of hiding, the Stam family. They were deported to Auschwitz via the Weteringschans and Westerbork on March 23, 1944. Berendina was gassed on arrival on March 26, 1944. Zadok and Bob were employed in the Chemical Buna factory of Monowitz, where Bob died on 1 July 1944 and Zadok on October 15, 1944. Frida survived the war through her work for the Philips Kommando, first in Vught and later in Auschwitz. After the war she was helped by family to secure her rights as an heir. Frida lived until 2015 and remained lifelong with Anna Dieperink, the fiancée of Bob, who formed a connection with the outside world during the hiding period and later had the malignant hiding people arrested.
