Javalaan 59 Heemstede
Some time ago, when removing the wallpaper in a house on the Achterweg in Heemstede, two tribal or subscription cards from the NZHTM were found, with passport photo and the names of Bertha Wallage, born November 13, 1934 and Carolina Wallage, born May 5, 1930 respectively . Research in the population register shows that they were registered at the address Javalaan 59 on 15 June 1939, after a brother Jacob Wallage was already living in Heemstede (1). None of this family survived the Holocaust. On June 6, 1942, the message was received to evacuate directly to Amsterdam. Only on January 18, 1943 were they organized, to Amsterdam (Swammerdamstraat 15). A neighbor from the Javalaan has visited the Wallage family there and found it in a worrying state. On 11 May 1943 the parents and two daughters from Westerbork were transported to Sobibor, where mother and children died three days later. Father Levie Wallage was selected with 79 men to do work for the Nazis in nearby Dorohuzca and died on 30 November of the same year, probably from exhaustion.
