Zuiderstraat 17 Pijnacker-Nootdorp
Heijman Moses and Hedwig (Hetty) Andriesse married on August 21, 1935 in Rotterdam. The marriage remained childless. On the night of August 16 to 17, 1941, the couple's home at Proveniersstraat 16 A in Rotterdam was hit during a British air raid. Hetty was seriously injured. She was admitted to the Sint Franciscus Gasthuis for some time. On October 13, 1941, Heijman and Hetty moved to Pijnacker, where they rented a room from a non-Jewish widow. Heijman traveled to work in Rotterdam every day and on the way back he took with him items he had found in the ruins of his former home. On Saturday, September 5, 1942, the funeral of the daughter of an NSB member took place in Pijnacker. When Heijman and Hetty were on their way to the dry cleaners to pick up clothes, they accidentally ended up in the funeral procession. Clearly recognizable by their Jewish stars, they were stopped by an NSB member present, who noted their names and addresses. The next day, Heijman considered fleeing, knowing what would happen. Hetty wanted nothing to do with that. 'They still know where to find us. We'd better stay here and wait,' she must have said. On Monday morning, September 7, the couple was picked up by a number of NSB members and handed over to the German authorities. Heijman managed to send a letter to his family in Rotterdam that morning. On the envelope he wrote the words: 'The car has just arrived, we are starting to the east'. On September 17, 1942, ten days after their arrest, the couple arrived in Westerbork. The next day, Heijman and Hetty were deported to Auschwitz. On January 6, 1943, almost four months after their deportation, they were deregistered from the Pijnacker population register because they were leaving for an unknown destination.
