Hogestraat 94 Aalten
The Goedhart family, living at 94 Hoogestraat, were among the poorest Jewish families in Aalten. Salomon Goedhart was born on October 8, 1860 in the municipality of Bergh. In 1877 he settled in Aalten, coming from Enschede, where he traded in vegetables, fruit and fish. He married Philippina Lea Rosenburg, born on April 27, 1863 in Enschede. They had a son, Marius, on February 22, 1890, who died on December 30, 1938. In their old age, Salomon and his wife responded to the German authorities' call to report in camp Vught. This happened on April 10, 1943, the day that the last remaining (and not in hiding) Jewish inhabitants of Aalten had to leave as part of the campaign to make the entire Achterhoek Judenrein. The same day, the contents of their house were transferred to a shed on Hoogestraat. Everything had already been confiscated when they were murdered in Sobibor on May 14, 1943. Salomon was 82 and Philippina was 80 years old.
