Raamstraat 23
Deventer
Actually Louis was not called Louis, but Ludwig. That betrays his German-Jewish origin.
Ludwig (nickname Louis) Frank was born on September 4, 1907 in the town of Grossropperhausen, the son of Jonas Frank (1872-1935) and Rosalie Lautman (1873-1942).
Jonas and Rosalie came to live in Deventer in May 1933 from Bochum (Germany) as German-Jewish refugees. Their daughter Meta (1903-1942) lived there since 1930 with her husband Heijman Berg (1893-1943). Ludwig and his brother David Theodoor Frank (1902-1943) also lived temporarily with their sister Meta from 1931 and later moved to their own address.
Louis was married on August 12, 1937 to Hede Heiser, from Breitenbach (Germany), where she was born on November 9, 1911. The couple lived in Deventer at various addresses, namely Oudegoedstraat 164 (1937) and Raamstraat 23 (1938).
Louis was a merchant / office worker by profession.
Louis Frank has arrived in Westerbork on 1-4-1943 from the last address Raamstraat 23. And transported 5 days later to Sobibór where he was gassed three days later. His wife Hede Heiser survived the war.
A neighbor of the Frank couple, Mary Pannekoek-Olthof, who lived at 21 Raamstraat, has known Hede. Her parents were friends with the Frank couple. Hede moved to New York and was married there again. In the correspondence with Mary's mother, she never wrote about the "past" again. She died about 2011 (probably in Florida). Her husband died earlier and they had no children.
Ludwig's father, Jonas, was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Deventer in 1935. His wife, Rosalie, the mother of Ludwig, his brother David Theodoor with his wife and daughter, his sister Meta and husband and son, were all murdered in the extermination camps.
