Arthur Lamm (60) and Iska Lamm-Fried (43) and daughter Irene Lamm (19) lived here for a year and a half.
Arthur was born on October 5, 1882 in Erfurt, Iska on July 18, 1899 in Ulm. Arthur was an engineer, in March 1923 he married Iska Fried in Königsberg. He was 40 years old, she was 23. On December 21, 1923 their daughter Irene was born. At the end of 1933, the year of Hitler's seizure of power, the family left Nazi Germany. They first settled in Amsterdam and moved to The Hague in 1939.
In March 1941 they were forced to leave the coastal region for Gouda as foreign refugees. After a month in Gravin Jacobastraat, they moved to Sophiastraat 46 on April 3. Irene had an HBS education and worked as an office clerk. It is unclear whether Arthur was still able to work here with all the restrictive measures. They lived here for a year and a half, while as Jews they became increasingly isolated from the rest of the population. In July 1942 the forced jewels and police raids began.
In October 1942 the family was torn apart. Mother Iska and daughter Irene were arrested by the police, transported to Amsterdam and detained in transit camp Westerbork on 14 October. They were imprisoned there for four months. Then their deportation to Auschwitz irrevocably followed, where they were murdered immediately upon arrival on 19 February 1943.
Arthur was left with an infectious disease, according to his Jewish Council card. He was registered in the Central Home on the Oosthaven, the Jewish retirement home. Arthur also had to accompany the great April raid on April 9, 1943, during which almost all residents of the Central Home and other Jewish fellow citizens were deported. In a long train from Gouda station via Rotterdam to Westerbork. On April 20, 1943, he was deported to Sobibor, where he was murdered immediately upon arrival.
