Jacob Smeer worked at Hollandia-Kattenburg, a clothing factory in Amsterdam. Accused of having distributed the illegal magazine De Waarheid in the company and of calling for sabotage of the raincoat production destined for the German army by working slowly or by breaking down the assembly line, Jacob Smeer was arrested and in January 1943 against him and four other employees of Hollandia-Kattenburg in Utrecht. Bernard Luza was considered the leader of the group. The death penalty was demanded for all members of the group. Luza and Mijer Konijn were sentenced to death, the three others received a prison sentence. Jacob Smeer was one of these three.
