Abraham Jacob de Vries (from an Amsterdam merchant family) lived in Haarlem as a shopkeeper in pottery and glass, renting rooms to lodgers such as violinist Liepman Leger. He married Isaakje Drukker in 1905; she came from an Amsterdam fishmonger’s family. Their only child, Hester, was born in 1909, later married, and had two daughters before the war. Isaakje likely assisted in the business and cared for the household. Liepman Leger, born in Amsterdam, lost his parents early, lived with his sisters, and later pursued music as a violinist, though little is documented about his career. From 1941 until deportation in 1942 he lodged with the De Vries-Drukker family in Haarlem. None of them survived the war.
