Simon Caneel is a porter by profession and married in 1912 to Esther Jesaijes, born on April 3, 1884 in Amsterdam. She has two sisters, Sientje Kwieser-Jesaijes and Klaartje Caneel-Jesaijes. The couple have two children: Clara and David. Simon Caneel dies in 1937. Esther lives in Geraniumstraat 3 with her two children. Her son, David, is a metalworker. Her daughter, Clara, is married to a non-Jewish man. The house in the Geraniumstraat is the property of Esther Caneel. In preparation for the expropriation of Jewish real estate, the house was transferred to the Niederländische Grundstückverwaltung Foundation in August 1941. On August 18, 1943, Esther Caneel's home was sold to a private individual. During the war, Esther Caneel, like her daughter, works at the SOBU and then at the Philips Kommando. She is in Vught from August 20, 1943. She was deported to Auschwitz on 3 June 1944, together with the other Philips employees. Esther Caneel-Jesaijes is murdered in Birkenau in July 1944. The exact date of her death is unknown. Her two children survived the war.
