Frank Craeybeckx, nephew of former Antwerp mayor Lode Craeybeckx, was arrested by German police at the age of 18 in house number 73.
Frank had a great sense of justice. At 16, he and his cousin Jan set up a cell of the communist Revolutionary People's Youth Flanders from the Berchem atheneum. He wrote and distributed anti-German propaganda, provided false papers to people in hiding and recruited new members.
On 2 August 1942, he was arrested in the Ridder Van Ranstlei. His parents were unaware of his acts of resistance. This can be inferred from the diaries of his parents who continued to hope for his homecoming until after 1945.
However, he had already died in the Mauthausen camp on 26 February 1943. A fellow inmate later said that he had been given Frank's coat after Frank told him he was going to die anyway.
