At Westerhoutpark 18 in Haarlem lived Flora Mariane Samson (born 8 June 1875 in Paramaribo, Suriname), one of seven children of Jacob Marcus Samson and Estelle (Hester) Samethini. The family returned to the Netherlands around 1890; later most of her sisters were either already deceased or were murdered in the Holocaust. Flora lived unmarried and with no recorded profession. On 22 January 1937 she was registered in Haarlem at Huize Houtrust (Westerhoutpark 18-20), a care facility for people with mental health issues. Records later show her formally moving from the address on 7 October 1943, but in fact she had been deported from Westerbork on 6 July 1943 during the Nazi occupation. Flora was murdered in Sobibor extermination camp on 9 July 1943 at age 68.
