At Thorbeckestraat 51 in Haarlem lived the Hekster family, commemorated with Stolpersteine. Asser Hekster (born 30 May 1866 in Amsterdam) and his wife Aline Hekster-Waterman (born 29 March 1888) lived there with their children Barend (1919), Philip (1922), Mina (1925), and Rebecca (1928). Asser had worked in several jobs and later sold flowers. The family was deported from Westerbork on 28 August 1942 during the Holocaust. Asser and Aline were murdered in Auschwitz on 31 August 1942. Their teenage daughters, Mina and Rebecca, were also murdered in Auschwitz on the same day. Sons Barend and Philip were taken during transport and died in labour camps in Central Europe on 30 April 1943.
Stolpersteine for the family are laid near their former home to honour their memory and ensure they are not forgotten.
