Son of Luite Jan Krikke and Siebrigje IJkema. Unmarried. Florist/furniture maker. Reformed. In early 1942, Jelte was called up to work for the Germans on the coast at Saint Nazaire (France). He complied with the call-up. After six months, he was allowed to return home, but he immediately went into hiding. He immediately began carrying out work that was unwelcome to the occupying forces. On 15 August 1944, Jelte was arrested by two members of the Landwacht (civil guard) in Heerenveen for carrying a forged identity card. He was taken to the police station in Heerenveen, then transferred to the prison in Leeuwarden and finally, on 29 August 1944, transported to the Amersfoort concentration camp. He was then transferred to Neuengamme (Germany) on 8 September 1944 and subsequently to Sandbostel. He died as a result of deprivation in an English hospital. After his arrest, his family had no further contact with him. Originally buried in Sandbostel. On 27 November 1962, he was reburied with military honours at the OGS cemetery of honour in Loenen, section E, no. 408.
