Haardstraat 31 Sint-Truiden
Born in St Truiden, the 9th of August 1907, husband of Mrs. Maria Renquin, Haardstraat 31, was mobilized and took part in the 18-day campaign in 1940. After his release he joined the BNB-AS, where he was once again a soldier his country wished to serve, to face the danger even though he was a father of 3 children. Held with the other buddies, he entered the concentration camps of Breendonk, Esterwegen, Gross-Strehlitz and Laband in Upper Silesia. Deprivations, mistreatment, and ill-treatment were the cause of his complete exhaustion, and so it is that Gerard succumbed in the overpopulated transport that transported him from Buchenwald to Theresienstadt; this happened on the night of April 30, 1945, when liberation was in the offing.
Gerard died on May 1, 1945 during the transport from Buchenwald to Theresiënstadt.
