Thedemastraat 55 Bedum
On the morning of July 21, 1944, a fighting crew, which consisted of nine to ten men besides Roeters, raided the regional distribution office in Slochteren. The loot was abundant: 13,280 ration cards, 44,979 rations and 3,500 tobacco cards. In hindsight, a cardinal mistake was made. Everyone was neglected to search. Because the office manager still had a spare key with him, staff and visitors were only locked up for a short time. Moreover, it had been seen that the robbers had cycled towards Schildwolde. Because the SD was quickly informed, the search for the perpetrators started too smoothly. Lever and Hendrik Ernst de Haan (May 4, 1920 Batavia, Dutch East Indies) and Kornelis Roeters (January 17, 1921 Bedum) went to farmer Jan Molenkamp in Eenum for shelter. The Germans also had the idea to look for perpetrators of the robbery at Molenkamp. A shootout ensued between both parties, killing Lever and De Haan. Roeters was captured. He would die on February 20, 1945 in Sachsenhausen concentration camp
