He and his brother Henri ran a wholesale business in colonial goods and bakery products in Assen. In 1900 he became a member of the Liberal Democratic Union and in 1915 he was elected to the city council of Assen. Shortly afterwards he was appointed alderman and deputy mayor and he retained these positions until 1923. The brothers Isidor and Henri Vos were married to two sisters from Hamburg. The two Vos-Levy families have always lived in close proximity. Isidor and Caroline had two daughters, the marriage of Ida and Henri remained childless, much to their sorrow. Caroline Vos-Levy, Isidor's wife, died on March 7, 1940, just before the German occupation of the Netherlands. In the course of 1940/41 Isidor, Ida and Henri moved to Utrecht, but shortly afterwards Henri had to be admitted to the Jewish psychiatric institution 'Het Apeldoornse Bosch' in Apeldoorn. There he died of natural causes in 1942, just before all the residents there were brutally deported and murdered. Isidor Vos and his sister-in-law Ida Vos-Levy continued to work together and settled in Bilthoven, first at 56 Hobbemalaan and from 13 July 1942 they are registered at Rembrandtlaan 84. Rosalie, the eldest daughter of Isidor Vos lived with her husband. in the Parklaan in Bilthoven. For Isidor Vos and Ida Vos-Levy, Rembrandtlaan 84 has become their last voluntarily chosen home address. In 1942 most Jews had already had to leave the municipality of De Bilt to move to Amsterdam. Apparently they managed to escape this, but in 1943 they were called to report and they complied with that call. On April 23, 1943 they walked with daughter and son-in-law to Bilthoven Station, said goodbye there and boarded the train that took them to the Vught transit camp. All of this of their own accord, without coercion and not knowing what fate awaited them shortly afterwards. On May 8, 1943, Isidor and Ida were transported by train from Vught to Westerbork. Their stay there was short-lived: on 11 May 1943 both were deported to Sobibor. There they were both murdered by gassing on the day of arrival 14 May 1943.
