Abraham (Bob) Wijnberg and Mimi Gobits met in 1932 at the ceremony of Nehemia de Lieme in Amsterdam. In 1941 Bob entered the armed resistance. Mimi went into hiding with their child in Ilpendam. From those thirteen years, extensive correspondence has survived between the two of them and dozens of family members, including Palestine and the hiding place.
The hundreds of letters with photos will be available on February 22, 2013 on the website of their daughter Chawwa Wijnberg.

At the end of July 1992 we, Chawwa Wijnberg and Marianne Gossije, when we returned from vacation, received a large package from Israel. Chawwa's mother, Mimi Gobits, died in Israel in 1990, and the package contained her "legacy," more than 300 letters that represent the near-complete correspondence between Mimi and Chawwa's father, Abraham Wijnberg, who called himself Bob, and others.
Hundreds of photos were included in albums, folders and boxes, including photos from Mimi's hiding period.
Together we first ordered and read all letters and then digitized them. That was not an easy task because the outcome was of course known. Mimi and Chawwa survived the war, hundreds of family members were murdered in the extermination camps, and Bob was shot by the Germans for participating in the armed resistance as a member of the Order Service (OD).

What started in 1932 as a typical correspondence of two young lovers - they are 17 and 18 when they get to know each other - turns into a harrowing correspondence between a hiding Jewish woman with baby and a Jewish resistance fighter captured by the Germans during the war.
Chawwa never knew her father, he lived with her for another sixteen days. There is one photo of him standing with her in his arms.
