Binnenwiertzstraat 33 Eindhoven
Bernard Goedhart was born on July 7, 1890 in Roermond. He is a merchant and trades in haberdashery. Bernard Goedhart married in 1917 to Selina Frederika Cohen, born on December 12, 1891 in Hengelo. The Sabbath is observed because on Saturday morning Selina regularly asks the neighboring children to get coconut bread from Albert Heijn. They like to do that, because as a thank you they always get a slice. Bernard and Selina have two children: Jacques, born on July 29, 1917 and Evaline, born on February 8, 1923. On August 31, 1928, the family moved from Roermond to Eindhoven. Things seem to be going well, because there is a private car in front of the house in the Binnenwiertzstraat. A black Ford with a bellows horn. The merchandise is stored in the garage. Local residents from that time remember fine mother-of-pearl buttons, knitting yarn and beads. Bernard Goedhart does not interfere much with the neighborhood. But sometimes, when kids play ball or sidewalk chalk in front of his house, he comes to say something about it. During the war, the family went into hiding for a short time. The story goes that they were betrayed by the family who gave them shelter. It is certain that Bernard, Selina and Evalina Goedhart were deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz on 15 November 1943. Two and a half months later, on January 31, 1944, they are murdered there. Jacques Goedhart survived the war. He worked at the Philips-Kommando in Vught. On June 3, 1944 he was deported to Auschwitz together with the other employees. He probably wouldn't have known he was where his sister and parents lost their lives a few months earlier.
