A-weg 7A Groningen
Adriaan van Haeringen is twenty-two when the war breaks out. He is the youngest in a family of twelve children (eight girls and four boys). His parents are Willem van Haeringen, a farmer by profession and Aaltje van Haeringen, in Avereest. Adriaan will study in Groningen at the Technical School1. When the Germans requisitioned all the cars during the war, Adriaan brought the car of the Gouwe van Lutten family to Zwartsluis on September 23, 1944, together with two friends, Hans Erik Gouwe and Chris Bakker. Once there, they hand over the car to the resistance. When they then hear that the Mastenbroekerpolder has been flooded, they decide to lend farmers a helping hand where possible to save the livestock. While the boys then cycle back home, some resistance members in Balkbrug appear to have opened fire on an ammunition ship, but without any effect. Alarmed Germans shortly afterwards arrest the unsuspecting trio. They are suspected, searched and taken away. During the arrest, the Germans shoot Hans Erik from behind. His body is dragged to the public road where it must remain as a deterrent. The other two are taken in a robbery truck. On the way to Hans Erik's parental home, where a search will take place, they have to take shelter from English pilots. During this event Chris Bakker manages to escape. Adriaan is then tied up and remains in the robbery truck all evening during the search. When the Germans finally leave, he is shot dead and thrown into the Dedemsvaart.
