Roerderweg 62 Roermond
Lived in Roermond, Roerderweg 62. Son of blacksmith Remko Roosjen (January 24, 1857 Veendam - February 9, 1917 Wildervank) and Margaretha Renzina Sap (January 13, 1854 Stadskanaal - August 12, 1921 Wildervank). Married Harmine Ketelaar (18 August 1884 Veendam - 11 February 1946 Venlo). Electrician/superintendent Provincial Electricity Sales Company. Member resistance. Among other things, he has been involved in the design and use of a message and warning system for the underground movement. During a house search, a telephone and a description of electricity connection networks were found in the basement of his home. Roosjen was already incarcerated at that time. Cammaert reports that the Ortsgruppenführer of the NSDAP in Roermond, H. Nieland, had had him arrested a few days earlier, on October 24, 1944. The historian suggests that this may have happened because of his anti-German attitude. However, there is another reading. According to Munnicks, Roosjen had already been arrested on the morning of October 15, 1944 by the German NCO Stöpler, whom he had tried to mislead when supplying power. On the Groote Heide (Venlo airfield) on the Toeperweg, he was shot dead by his subordinate Conrad on the orders of the Maastricht SD commander Ströbel. Roosjen and the three others who were killed here are commemorated with a monument on the Toeperweg. Buried on the Groote Heide. On 6 July 1946, on the instructions of SD officer Nitsch, two graves with the remains of the four men were found. Roosjen was reburied in his hometown at Kapel in 't Zand Cemetery (Oude Kerkhof), Protestant section, 2nd class, section 1, no. 10. (Source: WW2 Casualties)
