Siegfried Emil (Sieg) Adelaar was born in Amsterdam on January 23, 1909. His parents were Eduard Adelaar (Gorinchem, March 8, 1873 – Zwolle, April 8, 1943) and Klara Adelaar-van Huiden (Oude Pekela, June 26, 1875 – Zwolle, 8 Apr 1943). Sieg was their only child and became a traveling salesman.

On December 22, 1937, Sieg married Alida Leanore Groenman, born in Amsterdam on March 10, 1907. Siegfried and Alida went to live at 44 De Genestetstraat in 1939. Since the houses were completed in 1937/1938, they were probably the first residents. At that time, not a single house had been built behind their house. Their two daughters, Doortje and Claartje, were also born in the house on De Genestetstraat.

In April 1943, the Jews of Zwolle were ordered to report because the city "Judenrein" had to be made. However, the Adelaar-Groenman family had already gone into hiding before that, the parents separated from their children. Sieg and Alida have most likely been betrayed. They were taken to concentration camps in the east and killed there on April 8, 1944.
