Arthur Meijer married Helene Cohen in 1910. Arthur was an officer with the KNIL. They lived in different places in the Dutch East Indies. In 1923 they moved with their three sons to Heppenheim (Germany) In 1934 they left for Putten in the Netherlands. Both were arrested in Putten in 1942. Helene arrived in Westerbork, barrack 85, on 18 November 1942. Arthur arrived in Westerbork, barrack 82, on 12 December 1942. On 2 February 1943 they were deported to Auschwitz. Of the three children, the eldest two survived. Their youngest son Ernst Ludwig Hugo, who lived on his own, did not survive the war. Anna Polak was a daughter of Simon Polak and Bettje van Rhijn, a family with a total of nine children. One child died as an infant, aged 1 and one child survived the Holocaust. All other children, i.e. Salomo, Philip, Hartog, Harmannus, Bertha, Carolina and Anna herself were murdered during the Shoah. Both her parents died before the war. Anna was born in Schoonoord, municipality of Sleen (nowadays municipality of Coevorden) and married on December 4, 1918 in Hoogeveen the tobacco manufacturer Hartog de Rooij, a son of Ephraim de Rooij and Antje van Os. The couple had a son named Ephraim, who lost his life somewhere in Central Europe during the Shoah.
