Adolf Klapproth (1898–1932) was born in 1898 and lived in Bad Sachsa. He had joined the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold (Black-Red-Gold Imperial Banner) and was thus part of the political resistance against the rising National Socialists. On the night of 31 July 1932, while he was at the Walkenrieder Bridge with other members of the Reichsbanner, supporters of the NSDAP opened fire on his group. Klapproth and three other men were hit, and he succumbed to his injuries a few days later on 6 August 1932. He was the first victim of the National Socialists in Bad Sachsa.
