Frederik Max Theodor Meijers
Frederik Meijers was born in 1902 in Utrecht into a Jewish family. He became a businessman and worked in both his father’s advertising company and his father-in-law’s bicycle parts factory. In 1930, he married Bertha (“Bep”) van Laar, and they had two sons. During the German occupation, he tried to protect his businesses from confiscation. To safeguard their children, he and his wife separated in 1940.
Meijers later went into hiding to avoid deportation but was arrested in January 1942 by Dutch collaborators and handed over to the German security service. After being imprisoned, he was sent to the Westerbork transit camp and shortly afterward deported to Auschwitz, where he was murdered.
Rebecca Bing
Rebecca Bing was born in 1877 in The Hague into a Jewish family. At a young age, she took on responsibilities within her large family. She later worked as a nurse in Amsterdam and, in 1906, became a companion and housekeeper for a wealthy Jewish family in Utrecht, where she remained a trusted and valued employee for many years.
In 1942, when Jews were ordered to report for deportation, her employer fled to Amsterdam, and Rebecca accompanied her. Both were arrested in 1943. Rebecca was sent to Westerbork and then deported to Sobibor in May 1943, where she was murdered shortly after arrival.
