Robert Passchyn was born on 10 April 1909. During the Second World War, he was arrested by the German occupiers on 21 June 1943 and deported as a political prisoner. He was imprisoned in the Nordhausen concentration camp in Germany, where he died on 2 April 1945, shortly before the end of the war. He was not liberated from captivity and died as a result of the harsh camp conditions. His memory lived on within his family and in Ostend, where he was once shown on a large photograph of political prisoners displayed in the Albertschool. A Stolperstein in Ostend has been requested to restore his visible remembrance in the city and to honour him as a victim of Nazi persecution.
