Julius Grünthal was born on December 29, 1875 in Posen, then Germany. He is married to Ottilie and they have two children: daughter Margarethe (Grete) and son Josef.
In 1911, the family moves to Berlin. Julius is a rabbi there and teaches philology and ancient languages at the Hochshule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums. He is also director of an orphanage. He educates the approximately thirty orphans who are housed in the orphanage as his own children.
Son Josef emigrated to Palestine in 1934. There he becomes a successful composer and changes his name to Josef Tal. He is unable to convince his parents to come to Palestine. Julius Grünthal's wife, Ottilie, died in Berlin in 1936. Julius Grünthal fled to the Netherlands in 1939. He arrived in Eindhoven on May 2, 1939.
Julius Grûnthal arrives on April 9 or 10 in Westerbork. Deportation to Sobibor follows on 13 April. Julius Grünthal is murdered here immediately after arrival on April 16, 1943.

Pauline Cohn is born on October 31, 1871 in Rogasen. then Germany, born. She is the widow of Salomon Jacobsohn.
During the war, Pauline Jacobsohn-Cohn fled from Berlin to the Netherlands to live with the family of her son, Fritz Jacobsohn.
Three generations live in Daguerrestraat: next to Pauline, her son Fritz, an instrument maker, his wife Margarete Grünthal and their son Heini. And Margarete's father, Julius Grünthal.
Pauline Jacobsohn-Cohn arrives in Westerbork on November 12, 1942. A few weeks later the deportation to Auschwitz follows. Pauline Jacobsohn-Cohn is murdered in Auschwitz immediately after arriving on December 3, 1942.
Her son and his family are part of the Philips Command. All three survived the war. Fritz manages to escape the Germans with a stolen van and flee back to Eindhoven. After the war, Fritz Jacobsohn wants to work at Philips. but that is not allowed because as a German he first had to become 'entnazifiziert'. He emigrated to America with his family.
Margarete's father, Julius Grünthal, is also murdered.
