Burcht 4 Zaanstad
Josephina was the mother of Esther Drilsma-Jacobs and widow of Gabriel Jacobs (Brielle, 1/17/1860 - Amsterdam, 4/21/1931). She also had a son with him, Hartog (Amsterdam, 9/12/1906 - Amsterdam, 6/22/1977). Josephina came to Zaandam from Amsterdam on April 25, 1935. She lived for 3.5 years on Gedempte Gracht 10b and moved to Prins Hendrikkade 7 on the last day of 1938. On February 20, 1941 she moved into a room at Burcht 4, the small house of Marigje Bouter. She was an obstetrician in the Reformed Rest and Nursing Home Spes Viva on the East side. After the expulsion from Zaandam, Josephina Jacobs lived for a short time in Amsterdam's Majubastraat 59 II. Adolphina Drilsma went into hiding in Beverwijk, with the Van der Hoorn family. Josephina Jacobs was arrested in the fall of 1942 during a raid in Amsterdam and then transported to Westerbork. Josephina Jacobs-Kater and Adolphina died on 5 March 1943 in Sobibór by gassing. Josephina was 71 years old at the time, Adolphina 6. The person in hiding Leonardus Hendrikus Martinus van der Hoorn was released after a short interrogation at the local police station. The transport of March 2 from Westerbork was the first to go to Sobibór disguised as a holiday resort. Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was not available from early March to late July 1943. The trains from Westerbork therefore got a different destination and continued to the Polish Sobibór. There was almost only selected for the so-called Seuchenbekämpfungsstelle, which subsequently turned out to be a gas chamber. Almost no one survived. Until July 20, 1943, eighteen trains followed, containing more than 34,000 people. 71 of them came from the Zaan region.
